I'd like to buy the world a Coke and sing in perfect harmony, but...
"Everyone is crying out for peace, none is crying out for justice.”
The late reggae great Peter Tosh penned the opening verse to his hit song “Equal Rights” in 1977, but the “peace at any price” crowd of 2006 still doesn’t discern the difference. Iraq was “peaceful” under Saddam Hussein, as was Russia under Stalin. We cannot produce any evidence that indicates these people enjoyed any “justice”. Which would the millions Mao butchered have chosen, since they lived in “peace“?
Any truce that does not remove the underlying cause of the conflict is guaranteed to fail. History is filled with countless examples of “unfinished” wars that inevitably flare up again.
Since the creation of Israel in 1948, there have been more “cease-fires” between Arabs and Jews fighting over tiny Israel than in the rest of the world combined. Following the logic of the peaceniks, shouldn’t the Middle East already be the most peaceful place on Earth?
